Just Me

This is my last entry for the trip. Before I do any reflecting, let me first describe the place I am staying. It is on the east side of the island, right on the water. All the buildings have traditional thatched roofs. The roofs on the two larger buildings are very high and feel so spacious. The sand is a beautiful fine white and makes up all the paths, as well as the beach. There are the classic palms and flowering bushes, much like those in Hawaii. A very long pier heads straight out into the water and leads to a building where one can eat or just hang out. The water is very shallow and one can go out a good way and still only be waist deep. When the tide is out, the beach almost seems to stretch to the horizon. Of course there is a pool and a nice restaurant. It is quite warm and humid, but there is always an onshore breeze, so the shade is very pleasant. All in all, a tropical delight. And the only thing that would improve this would be a companion.
Tomorrow, I leave here about 8 am to head the hour to the airport. Hop that short flight back to the Nairobi airport and then wait the rest of the day before heading home at midnight. Two long flights and I’ll be there. I am ready to go.

This has been such a mixed trip. Some very good experiences and especially some very good people. I will carry these with me. There have also been a few more bumps than expected, and I very much felt I was on my own for this trip. God took good care of me, and I am grateful.
Now I return to my home and my country. Home will be welcoming, but the country has chosen a new direction and will not now be the place I left.
I will leave you with these verses my sister, Judy, shared with me. “Love the Lord, all you his saints! The Lord preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride. Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord.” Ps 31:23, 24
